This is a picture from the Vietnam Memorial. I didn't realize that the wall was as tall as it was. I wondered what people do when a name they want to make a rubbing of is higher than they are. A park service employee is holding a ladder for a man in this picture. People leave items at the wall every day and the items are gathered and kept for a possible future display. Everything from letters to a Harley Davidson motorcycle have been left at the wall.
This is a picture of the Hope Diamond found in the Natural History Museum. The Gems and Minerals area in the museum is especially fantastic--even if you're not a geologist!
This is a cast of the tunnels of an ant hill also found at the Natural History Museum. If you've ever wondered what's underground, here's a sneek peak!
This ranks right up there with the picture we have of George Avenue and Kim Street--The George Allen Toops (GAT) bus was picking up riders outside of the Lincoln Memorial.
I reserved tickets for the Holocaust Museum. This is a picture of the entry into the building. It was just as interesting as I've heard. Toward the end of the self-guided tour we watched a video of survivors speaking about their experiences. One woman spoke about staying together with three friends through three years in concentration camps and a death march and the morning of their liberation, one of the friends died at the water pump in the camp. An American soldier who helped liberate the woman's camp became her husband.
gotta love the GAT bus!!!
